Lakshmi Ravishankar’s video clip was documented in Pune, India way back in 2014. It shows a Scaly-breasted Munia (Lonchura punctulata) bathing on a hot morning. According to her, “…in spite of the domineering presence of a Red-vented Bulbul, the munia stood its ground and didn’t fly away until it became absolutely necessary.”
Bathing plays a major role in keeping the plumage in top form. Birds also take dust bath, sun bathe, preen and indulge in anting to clean and maintain their feathers in good condition.
