Brown-throated Sunbird feeding in the evening

on 19th July 2012

“Walking around my neighbourhood this evening, I heard sunbirds calling all around. This one was busy feeding at 6pm, making up for the feeding hours wiped out by the all-day rain today.”

Note: The bird is a male Brown-throated Sunbird (Anthreptes malacensis). The plant is Xanthostemon chrysanthus, commonly known as Golden Penda. This is a common roadside tree with yellow blooms appearing at regular intervals. Details of the tree and the birds that visit the flowers can be found in this LINK.
